GlaxoSmithKline
The combined history of GlaxoWellcome plc and SmithKline Beecham plc, which merged in 2001 and became GlaxoSmithKline, can be traced back to the opening of a pharmacy in 1715. Today, GlaxoSmithKline is a global presence, operating in more than 150 countries.
As a science-led, global healthcare company, GlaxoSmithKline is committed to the research and development of a broad range of products in three primary areas: pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and consumer healthcare. It is one of the few healthcare companies researching medicines and vaccines for the World Health Organisation’s three priority diseases – HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
